Printing of firearm licence cards

Evening all
I received an sms from SAPS in middle of Feb this year saying that my new application had been approved. After waiting 4 weeks i had still not been contacted by my local DFO so I called to follow up.
This is where the runaround started...
Apparently there is now uncertainty as to where and when all the licence cards are going to be printed. Is it in each province or only in Pretoria?

Anybody else in a similar predicament?
Any advice from someone who has managed to find a way to move forward?

Apparantly all cards will now be printed at the Government Printers in Pretoria. Once teething problems have been sorted out it should go a lot faster. We hope!!

My rifle license were also approved Mid Feb 2018, and yes, I am also awaiting my license card.

I feel they could provide us with a letter or something serving as a temporary license. It is not our fault they have teething problems.

At this rate we will have to renew our licenses before we get the firearms.

I have been struggling for 6 weeks, there is no easy way around it. Even Brig Bopape can not assist.

The only feedback you'll get is, please be patient. You'll get a standard reply looking something like this
"Your application was approved on ....... and is in queue to be printed. We migrated to GPW for all the printing work, but a problem exist with the data flow between the SAPS and GPW. We are attending to this problem and request the fire arm owners to be patient until this obstacle is resolved"

Well the funny thing is, if you sold your firearm to a private person and their license is approved, they will most likely
wait months before they receive their card. So that means you are sitting with an unlicensed firearm in your safe because as soon as a license gets approved by CFR it gets deleted from the previous owners profile.

So the old owner can be arrested for an illegal firearm.

I have the same problem with one of my licences.

Had one approved on 9 Feb which took a month to print but I did eventually get it. Had another approved on 20 Feb which I am still waiting for.

I read somewhere that the backlog should be cleared by the end of April 2018.

You'll also be glad to know that you now get instructions on how to care and look after your licence card with every new card that gets issued

Looks like I won't be hunting this year.

My Lisensie is begin Desember goedgekeur. Gister toe gaan ek maar na my DFO toe, hulle sê toe die printing is vêr agter en dat hulle nou eers begin het met Oktober se printing, so dit lyk my ek gaan nog lank wag.

You’re supposed to go to the DFO so they can print your competency for you. Unlike an actual Firearm license, competencies aren’t in card format anymore.

My competency was approved 1 day before they sms me that the licence has been approved, when I went to the DFO yesterday and asked if they can at least print my competency, they said the system is blocked from doing it till they take delivery of the card. Everyone has their own story.

Dis maar 'n deurmekaarspul, ek sou die DFO gereeld besoek en navraag doen oor die kaartjie. My een lisensie is op 20 Febr goedgekeur en daarna was daar doodse stilte. Gister vind ek toe uit dat my kaartjie al geruime tyd by die DFO se kantoor lê. Na die sms dat my lisensie goedgekeur is het ek geen notifikasie ontvang dat die kaartjie gedruk is nie. Mooi loop

Jakkals het ander plan gemaak hy is geforseer om binne 90 werks dae goed te keur maar niks is genoem van hoe lank die kaartjie mag vat nie. Dink dit is iets wat CHASA en SA Jagters moet gaan aanvat.

SA Jagters volg eers op as n kaartjie na 3 maande nog nie gedruk is nie.

Ek het gister my kaartjie opgetel, geen sms ontvang nie.
Daar is n boks vol kaartjies (so 86), die DFO's is glo te besig om n sms te stuur. So elke ou soek maar deur die boks as hy daar opdaag.

I got a call from my DFO this morning.
I collected the licence today.
Looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Die dae van wonderwerke is nog nie verby nie. Nadat my en my vrou se beursies in Oktober verlede jaar gesteel is, het ons beide aansoek gedoen vir herdruk van lisensies. Haar lisensie kaart het binne 4 weke arriveer, MAAR myne het vanmiddag, na amper 6 maande, eers by die DFO geland. Laat mens wonder hoe die logika agter die goed werk.
