Competency & Expriy dates

If someone can help me with this I would really appreciate it.

I currently have a pistol that is licensed until 2021.
When I renewed my license last year my DFO told me that I did not need to renew my competency as it was valid as long as the pistol license was valid, although it expired the year before. I believe this is standard.
With the renewal of my license there were no issues and the license was renewed with the expired competency.

Here is the catch now.
I want to upgrade/update my pistol to a newer modern handgun as it is 20+ years old.
In order for me to do this, and how I want to do this, is make use of S&O promotion to hand in my old handgun to S&O and buy a new one from them - and get a small amount for my old one.
HOWEVER - Will I then be able to buy the new one seeing that my Competency has expired?
When filling in the SAPS form surely they will not allow me to do an application for a new firearm with an expired competency.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

What is expiry date on your competency? If expired yes renew, you will need training certificates with sasseta or statement of results

For Handgun the expiry was 2007 although my current handgun license is valid until 2012 as I renewed it last year.
I've done a Rifle competency last year - does that mean the "Law" part is done?

When you do a new application for a handgun you must produce a valid competency certificate. Send me a photo on whatsapp of ur current competency card or certificate. Ill pm my number now

Wasn't there a Gazette that stated that all competencies were extended by 5 years? Anyone know of this or where I can find the Gazette notice?

Does this make sense to anyone - it is what I am handing in:
I have sold my current licenced handgun (Section 13) as it has become unreliable in order to obtain a new weapon as the one I had was over 30 years old.

I have an approved handgun license - which will be replaced by the new license (Section 13 valid to 2021), Shotgun Licence (Section 15, Valid to 2021) and Rifle License (Section 15, Valid to 2027). My competency for Handgun was automatically extended by 10 years to coincide with the expiry date of my shotgun (2021).

Johans jy kry nie meer n competency kaart nie, jy kry n gewone A4 papier uitdruk van jou competency, dit is op die polisie se stelsel wat hulle maar net elke keer uitdruk.
