Nikon1/8th moa turrets

Post by Dale SH »

Morning gents.

I have a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 scope on one of my rifles.
It has standard 1/4 MOA per click turrets covered by the screw on cap.
I received a set of 1/8 MOA per click tactical turrets with the scope, which I bought second hand a while ago.
My question is, if the scope is 1/4 MOA adjustable - how would these 1/8 MOA turrets be of any use ? in other words the turrets will show one click is 1/8 MOA on the turret graduations but in reality each click is actually1/4 MOA.

Am I being stupid here or how does this work ?
My point being that one can not change the standard "gearing/spline fitment" of the adjustment mechanism by just changing the turret caps.

Assistance please.

Agreed

You can't change 1/4 MOA graduation into a 1/8 MOA just by a new turret.

So one MOA adjustment on the 1/8th turret scale is in fact 2 MOA in reality.
I suppose one would just have to halve the amount of MOA dial up on the scope.
So if I have to dial 12 MOA (48 clicks on the 1/4 MOA turrets) at 500 meters then I should be looking for 6 MOA on the 1/8th graduated turrets.
This could be become a pain in the backside in a hunting environment.

Anyone have some 1/4 MOA graduated tactical turrets to fit the Nikon scope in question ?

The turret with 1/8 adjustment will have the finer adjustment to enable it to only move 1/8 MOA. The gearing in the turret is what will make that possible.

Correct, but the gearing in the turret is set for1/4 MOA adjustment.
One would have to change the gearing in the adjustment mechanism to configure the scope to 1/8th MOA adjustment.

Have a look at this video and you can see that the divisions are smaller on the 1/8MOA turret than on the 1/4. The gearing seems to be in the turret itself, so that a click moves less on the 1/8 turret. The turret engages with the internal adjustment and the size of the rotation must then be dictated by the turret gearing or then clicks.
