Syfers van 4300 vuurwapens en 9,5 miljoen patrone wat vermis word. Ek kan verstaan hoekom - niemand word verantwoordelik gehou en vervolg nie. Nou vra hulle hoekom daar so baie "onwettige" vuurwapens in omloop is.

Dis skokkend. As die FF nie die vraag in die parlement gevra het nie het ons nie geweet nie. Dan wil hulle ons wapens beheer nogal. Pateties en korrup tot op die been.

Ek kan baie goed onthou toe die bevoegdheid dinge begin deur kom het, het ek al my dokumente na my polisie stasie toe gevat vir my her-aansoeke. Die persoon wat my gehelp het , het mooi spoggerig met haar pistool aan haar sy daar rond gewals....toe ek so droog vra of sy ook al hierdie toetse en teiken skiet goed gedoen het om haar vuurwapen te kan dra.......Wel die kyke en verbaasdheid , hulle was toe al twee wat na die dokumente gestaar het , was baie duidelik genoeg dat hulle geen kop of stert uitmaak van sulke toetse ens nie. Wel my volgende vraag was toe nou wanneer doen julle dit om julle vuurwapens wettiglik te kan dra en gebruik het ook net so op dowe ore geval......so die bogenoemde verbaas my nie.

Die baie besoeke deur polisielede aan geweerwinkels om hul voorrade na te gaan lyk nou soos 'n klugspel. Hulle moet hule eie mense beter beheer en gereeld voorrade monitor.

As 1000 patrone verdwyn dan is daar al iewers 'n skroef los. Amper 10 miljoen dui op 'n georganiseerde proses waaruit jy geld maak - diefstal.

Iemand anders het genoem dat dit moontlik is dat daar net swak rekordhouding was en dat die ammunisie op bane weggeskiet is. As dit wel so is dan geld reëls net vir plekke soos geweerwinkels. Ons oudpresident het ook so gesukkel met die getalle.

Police loses 9,5 million rounds of ammunition in six years

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has 'lost' more than 9,5 million (9 555 426) rounds of ammunition over the last six financial years. During the same period, 4 357 firearms were also lost.

These shocking figures were revealed in an answer provided by the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, in response to an official parliamentary question posed by Dr Pieter Groenewald, leader of the FF Plus.

The question to the Minister was what number of firearms and how much ammunition in possession of the police were reported lost or stolen in each province respectively.

The greatest quantity of ammunition that went missing in a single year was in the Eastern Cape where 3,2 million (3 231 406) rounds of ammunition went missing in 2016/2017.

In the North West, 2,2 million (2 247 126) rounds of ammunition went missing during the 2014/2015 financial year according to the Minister's answer. Last year, the North West province lost nearly half a million (433 908) rounds of ammunition, that is the greatest quantity of all the provinces.

These figures are shocking and totally unacceptable, particularly as regards the loss of ammunition. It is incomprehensible that more than 3 million rounds of ammunition can go missing in a province during a single year and nobody knows how it happened.

No wonder violent crime is out of control. The police service seems to be the biggest provider of illegal ammunition.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister both regularly make statements about the need for stricter control of firearms. Minister Cele himself said that the government wants to impose stricter conditions for the possession of firearms for self-defence in an attempt to reduce violent crime, especially murders.

It, however, does not help to blame the legal owners of private firearms for crimes that are committed with firearms. The Minister's Department should get the blame. A firearm without ammunition is useless.

The measures that the Minister provides as remedial steps in his response are no more than the standard rules and procedures, but clearly these are not being properly enforced.

The FF Plus will request the chairperson of the Portfolio Committee for Police to urgently discuss this matter in the Committee and the relevant people must be held accountable.

The FF Plus insists that heads must roll seeing as this amounts to gross misconduct against the people of South Africa.

Cape Town - Two Vereeniging men accused of channelling guns to Cape Flats gangsters have appeared together in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court for the first time.

Former police colonel Christiaan Prinsloo, 55, and Gauteng arms dealer Alan Raves, 50, appeared before magistrate Cyril Kroutz to face charges relating to firearms sales, and racketeering. This relates to the alleged sale of firearms to gang members and in Prinsloo’s case, arms meant for destruction.
Raves was arrested last month in the possession of rifles and other firearms.

Prinsloo was arrested earlier in the year in Vereeniging and is accused of selling or giving guns to gangsters that were meant to be destroyed.

In previous court proceedings, the court was told that Raves was a firearms dealer, owned two businesses and was a private firearm collector.

Raves was also an inspector for the SA Heritage Resources Institute and his duties included monitoring firearms meant for destruction.

The State alleges that in 2007 the duo entered into a corrupt relationship involving police resources.

They allegedly took firearms meant to be destroyed and kept or sold them
Prinsloo is also faces three murder and 12 attempted murder charges in connection with the use of guns he allegedly supplied to gangs in Cape Town.
