Hi, I hope you guys can give me some information on Waterbuck. I have been invited on a hunt for Waterbuck and I am not sure what the meat is like and whether it is worth the pursuit. (I am mainly hunting for meat) Can you guys please share some of your insights and experience with regards to this buck?
Thanks, it is much appreciated.
Cheers
Andreas

Re: Waterbuck
Good meat just make sure the hair is kept away from the meat when skinning the oil in the hair is the reason why the meat would smell.

Meat is very tasty. do not touch the meat with the same hand as you touch the skin. or skin as a team- one hold the skin and one skins.

A must hunt waterbuck always makes for a good foto the meat has a beautiful texture good tasting shot a couple of them myself. I use a dishwasher mix 1 on 10 to wash down the carcas before we start skinning it works well.

Re: Waterbuck
I had some of my last Waterbuck mince as Lasagna tonight. One of the few animals where even an old big bull is good to eat.
All the same rules apply. Bleed it well, hang the carcass long enough etc etc. They are good fun to hunt, make a nice shoulder or scull mount, and given koedoe bull prices are now quite affordable.
Enjoy the hunt.

Re: Waterbuck
I was also sceptical at first.
My son hunted a bull 3 weeks ago and I can testify that the biltong is some of the best I have ever tasted.
As everyone says.....the secret is in the skinning!!
definitely on my follow up list later this year

Awesome - Thanks for all the responses. It seems to be unanimous, the meat is definitely worth the pursuit and care is to be taken re the skinning.
