Ek wil begin met swartwitpense op 'n klein skaal en sal enige advies waardeer van manne met ondervinding.
Ek dink om te begin met 1 jong bulletjie en so 3 of 4 verse in 'n 40ha kamp in Noordwes provinsie. Het aan swart rooibokke gedink maar ek kan nie intensief betrokke wees nie - is maar 'n naweek boer!
Waarna moet mens kyk as jy koop? Pryse? Permitte? Ek hoor die diere is vatbaar vir parasiete, is dit waar en waarna moet mens oplet? Hoe lyk die mark vorentoe?
Enige raad sal waardeer word.

Curently if you are going to go for sables. try and go for a pure line Matetsi, Zambian, Malawi, Tanzanian - cross breeds are good too but they donot retain their value.
Purebred Zambian heffiers - 800 -900k each now
Heffiers/Versies - quality animals are going to set you back 280k - 450k per animal. and it is a waste to put a young bull on them.
You want to be putting a 45'+ bull with them and you are looking at about 600k for that type of bull.
So your capital investment is about 2m to start with.
If your feeding etc is right and you have quality animals you can get an intercalf as low as 7mth intervals avg being about 9 mths.
All animals irrespective of species are susceptible to parasites both external and internal - careful monitoring will minimize the risk and quick treatment will stop casualties.
Personally I think the black impala is the better option as with sables once you have established you herd and you have your first offspring it is very difficult to add to the herd - because of their hierarchical system they kill any newcomers to the herd their are ways around this but it is tricky and their is risk involved.
Sables in the long term will be a stable 5% per annum return on investment.
Remember bulls up to 42" are cheap - R1200 per inch - females start at around 250k.
so one hopes and prays you get only heifers when your animals calf.

Don't overlook old cows - they already have the horn length...
