Hallo Julle,
kan ons nie gereeld hier ook 'n aanduiding kry van bokpryse nie, ek weet nie of hier baie bokboere is nie maar hier aan die gatkant van die wereld is dit deesdae'n geval van vat wat ons jou gee en klaar. Ek wil nie kla nie maar 'n ingeligte persoon neem beslis 'n deurdagte besluit! Dis nie om pryse teen mekaar af te speel nie maar eerder die markte beter te lees. Groete

Vasvat, at the moment we are getting R25 / kg for kaparters 30 kg and up. Queenstown area.

Hallo Wayne,
we are selling for about R22/23 up to 25kg and then dropping every 5kg with up to R1.
What makes this sum interesting 100 kapaters wieghing about 30kg average at my price compared to yours i lose about R120/ kapater or about R12 000, it scares me as it cant be transport alone! I sell about 1000 - 1500 goats a year, work out that sum!!! Somebody is making the money and it is not me!

It is the same problem all farmers have with all their products. We have to find a way to market directly to the end user or cut out as many of the middle men as possible, agents etc. If you take into consideration what an agent earns, with little or no overheads, and what the farmer earns, with all the risk and overheads, it is scary. Also think of how many agents have ended up buying farms with money earned out of farmers, it shows that if the farmers cut the agents out, they would be able to afford to buy more ground and expand. Transport does play a big role but their are ways of cutting those costs, sharing trips etc.
