Safari & Outdoor - App Rafles

Post by Cbird »

Hi everyone,

I’ve been participating from time to time in the raffles run through the Safari & Outdoor app, with the hope of winning some of the hunting gear and equipment they put up. While I enjoy the idea of these raffles, I’ve noticed a few things that don’t sit right with me.

Firstly, the communication around announcing winners often takes quite a long time. Secondly, when looking at the published list of past winners, I’ve seen a lot the same names appearing repeatedly over the last year or two. Some of the names that come up often include Simone Smith, Wilhelm Nell, Jan-Willem Bronkhorst, Marco-Pierre van Eeden, and Jarrod Faber, among others.

I find it strange that there can be so many repeated winners in raffles that are supposed to be open to anyone on the platform. It raises questions about how these raffles are monitored, who regulates them, and whether the process is truly transparent and fair.

I’m not making accusations, but I do think it’s worth discussing openly. Has anyone else noticed this pattern, or does anyone know more about how these raffles are run and overseen?

Thanks,
Siebert

Hi,
I will give you my opinion, and it is my opinion only.

They run multiple raffles so I assume it will sometimes take time to close the raffles out and announce the winners, but the winners are always announced. So, my take is, you either live with the time it takes or dont participate.

As for the regular winners, I am also one of them in selected items, and I assume the regular winners take the same approach as what I do. If there is something I like, or want, I will take the gamble to, depending on the item, buy between 50-80% of the tickets.

The draw for the winners are electronically, no different to the process when they do the big hunt / rifle draws, so it becomes odds thing, up your odd and improve your chances.

Just my opinion and approach to the raffles.

Oh, have I spend more on raffle tickets than what I have won, for sure. In the end, it is a game and a choice.

Thanks for explaining. I understand that buying most of the tickets increases odds, but financially it still feels like a gamble rather than a fair raffle. I think more transparency from Safari & Outdoor about how prizes are awarded would help build trust.

It is a gamble. You buy a ticket and hope it gets picked. It's the same as any other lucky draw and lotto.

I fully agree it is just the picking part I am wondering about…
