Good day Gents and Ladies

I'm looking at these two pistols

Beretta 92a1
cz 75 sp-01

Leaning towards the Beretta as its fits really well and it has caught my attention from the beginning.
I have done a search on here but struggling to find a lot of talk about that model on this forum.
Do any of you have experience with this handgun?? And if so what are your thoughts?

My uses would be as a range gun and only defense at home. i do not intend on carrying.

I cannot help you with the Beretta, the CZ is very good a great pistol for South Africans. Are you open for discussion on this issue ^^ ?

I have a 92FS (essentially the same as the a1 without the rail) and a M9 and wont trade them for anything

I know there are work requirements and regulations people have to comply with. That aside my advice is to always carry.
* attacks do not just happen at home. How do you respond?
* if they do happen at home and you are 5 mins away at the Cafee. How do you respond?
* if they happen at a friend's house during a braai? How do you respond?

Yes we can do a risk assessment and decide it will cover 75% of your biggest risk, then live with it.

Will you immediately holster when you get home? Will you skip some low risk times of day or days of the week? When is the risk in SA the lowest and highest?

I took a trip to Sun City for a show on the weekend, I decided not to carry (they have a no FA policy) and placed a big risk on my family as we ended up travelling at night. Yes SC does have the no FA sign thingy, no the will not stop any criminal intent on entering the premises. Yes they have unarmed security at venues. No they would not pick up a firearm at the show venue. Yes somewhere deep inside the belly of the beast is a "tactical unit" that may be able to fend off someone try to steal the loot. No they will not protect your family inside the venue, or on the way home.

Reality in SA is you are your own 1st responder and the protector of your family.

From the above sentiments Carl what i am taking away, is that you are advising that i should rethink about carrying all the time?? Is that correct??

I will rethink about it if that is what you are saying.

I am honestly not planning on carrying when going to a braai, friends house, or function etc. which lead me to my main uses being mainly on the range and target shooting.
It would however be 'bedside' at night.

You have to go back to the drawing board and read some articles of reputable Every Day carry advocates. Understand the short comings of your current plan. Attacks happen when you are at the braai, driving, fishing, on the beach, hiking, cycling, farming, sleeping, playing with the kids, watching TV. Not just when you are in bed.

Both are excellent handguns. For what you want to use it for I would suggest any one. The CZ Sp01 is currently very popular in competitive shooting events.

i thought i would give you some feedback since i have processed your advise.

I am not the kind of person that will carry all the time. its just the conclusion that i have come to. but i would love a handgun for range and target fun.

Ok so you bought the pistol for target shooting, similar to a rifle. That is excellent and I agree pistol shooting is a lot of fun and a quick and easy way to burn a lot of powder and have lots of fun.

Just as long as you are not under the illusion a handgun in the safe is a realistic self defence strategy. Then we are cool.

Yes for target shooting. If i were looking for Self defence carry i think i would have been better off with other models more appropriate for concealment.
