Hello
Can anyone tell me more about this call, I am having good success with it as my opening call, good responses and then silence and I am getting visitors?
If a jackal comes in up wind of me and when I put the light on him he turns and runs, that means he is light shy. Now my question is: He has learnt this somewhere, not me, I did not take a shot, will he get braver next time due to the fact that he was up wind of me and no shot was fired?

Wayne, the jackal turning away means trouble(it must have learned something somewhere) I do not think the particular call made a difference at all. Light shy yes, a day call might help if done with good planning. I am not judging you at all, just saying that that jackal is shy because of something.

Jak, no offense taken, but advice I will use. The problem in our area is bush. You often get 1 shot but do not see the other. Now it is possible that the other 1 is near by when the mate gets shot and it learns a little. The thing is - will it come in a little more relaxed next time as it was not shot at, will it come in at all, have I lost my chance at it?

Wayne, it is not so easy to predict what will happen next time. I have seen and experienced here with me that usually if a jackal comes in and do not get shot(for whatever reason) it becomes much more difficult to get him "in" in the future. I have not seen them get braver but rather more shy. You will have to call from a different stand, use other calls etc. than previously. Maybe give him a "rest" for a month or two and try again. It has worked for me in the past.

Jak101 is giving you very good advice, as to not over call, jakals become call shy as well, A very clever jak you will not call in with food sounds but with jak sounds.
A early morning or late afternoon call might trick him.
Regards
