Why do you need our services?
Environmental Impact Assessments is needed for a variety of reasons. There are three lists of activities with certain thresholds published by the National Department of Environmental Affairs called the 2010 NEMA listed activities of 18 June 2010. These listing notices list activities that could have a detrimental effect on the environment. This varies from general or hazardous waste production , handling and storage, to the undertaking of activities that will require an impact on the natural environment. Transformation of land from one land use to the other, the establishment of piggeries, feedlots or chicken production facilities, Power lines, and mining activities are only a few examples of activities that would need environmental impact studies to be done.
Specialist biodiversity studies is required in terms of the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act No. 10 of 2004 . It stipulates that some ecosystems, species or habitats are threatened, endangered of critically endangered. Therefore specialist studies are necessary to identify any of these listed ecosystems or species if they occur on site to establish the correct mitigation measures or actions needed to preserve those ecosystems or species. In Gauteng, a Geographical Information System exist which the department used to establish what specialist studies are required.
Occupational hygiene services is needed for companies to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, International and national standards such as the SANS codes and other regulations in terms of occupational hygiene. Therefore these studies are necessary if work is undertaken that could have a negative effect on an individuals health. Studies in this sector includes the monitoring of light intensity in a working environment, exposure to pollution or noise of unacceptable levels, or when training for when work is needed that involves hazardous materials such as asbestos, or nuclear waste.
