Peregrine vs Axe

Hi. Peregrine vs Axe. Does anyone have experience with both bullets to the extent where they can compare the difference between them. Peregrine are according to what I understand, established and very popular, although a bit on the expensive side. They cater for competition, long distance and hunting. Axe are supposedly the new kid on the block. Becoming quite popular with good groupings. They currently concentrate mostly on hunting bullets but are exploring long distance bullets. Informed input would be most appreciated.

Frontier, Ballistix and Peregrine are similar and have the tip folding over on impact. I believe Axe has a fragile tip that breaks into particles that cause secondary damage to the internals. Google mono-metal bullets in South Africa and you might even find others that make lathe turned bullets. All of them should be accurate due to tight dimensions and perform well in a hunting situation.

I was just making a general observation. The point of my post is to get opinions on the differences in the 2 brands with regards to performance.

There are so many bullets locally made and international and there is a place for all of them but all do not fit the same purpose that is why I was asking what is you intented use of the bullets?

Between the two I would choose Axe bullets for hunting purposes.

I can only comment from Peregrine's perspective.

To start, the material used by Peregrine isn't pure copper, it's Gilding Metal, the same material used for jackets of lead core bullets. The advantage of Gilding metal is reduced barrel friction, resulting in higher velocities, lower pressures, and significantly less copper fouling. Hence, Peregrine is the only bullet currently present at competitions, ensuring no drop in accuracy during a match due to copper fouling.

Furthermore, with hunting bullets, Peregrine uses a plunging system to assist with expansion. This system is patented and is the reason why Peregrine bullets can be used at further distances than one would typically expect from monolithic bullets. The plunger also serves the purpose of being aerodynamic, hence the high BC in the Plainsmaster range.

One of Peregrine's strengths is the knowledge base at the office, the bullet designs are developed by a dedicated R&D team consisting of mechanical and aerodynamic engineers who truly understand what it takes to make a bullet fly well.
