I have a young man that will be hunting with me in a few months (9 years old) and quite a few of my fellow bowhunters now have children in this same age bracket. That, and the ever increasing number of women that want to start hunting, I thought I would simply have a look at what impact a heavier arrow will have on penetration ability when draw length adjustment is not possible, and higher pounds is unlikely….

From experience with young bowhunters, let them shoot the heaviest arrows you can build that will fly consistantly out of their setup with the sharpest cut on contact broadhead. Another thing is get the FOC high, try a 100gr brass insert or find some >175gr broadheads, depending on the spine of the arrow of course. And keep shots no further than 20-25m.
