Post by TacDriver »

It's finally happening... and what all Long Range shooters in South Africa have been looking forward to !!!

The inaugural Tac Driver - Steel Storm 2015 is a Practical / Tactical Long Range competition being held in Touws Rivier from the 18th – 20th of September 2015. It's a dual format rifle match, comprising of Practical and Tactical ranges that promises to challenge you physically and mentally in every aspect of long range shooting.

The Practical Range tests skills involved in getting to a shooting location, identifying targets, and engaging long-range rifle targets within 3 shots. Some of the skills include target recognition, ranging, wind doping, ballistic data management, marksmanship under field conditions, non-standard shooting positions, and rudimentary trail skills.

The Tactical Range test skills involved with positional shooting, physical and mental tests while engaging long-range rifle targets within 3 shots. Some of the skills include wind doping, marksmanship under field conditions, non-standard shooting positions, equipment familiarity and the use of field supplied equipment.

Yip, similar concept, but no spotters.

This is a typical long range stage with my buddy Casey at last years Rocky Mountain Steel Quest:

I wish I could afford to shoot this ... :(

Apart from the entry fee the ammo cost is just prohibative for me. (I don't even have 300 pieces of 260 AI brass)

Truth be told, I only work with 50 pieces of brass ... that is how little I shoot at a time. (Probably standing on reload number 18 for those 50 pieces of Lapua brass :) )

Come shoot and then figure out what you need to do.

No point in sitting on the sidelines and not actually knowing what's involved.... ;)
Dive in, and know what and how to practice for the next one.

Steve and Rob spent the last couple of days setting up the Practical Range of the Steel Storm 2015.

The terrain has been insane... from massive washed away sections that had to be crossed, through waist high Karoo scrub, and going halfway up the mountain over shale at 30 degrees.... and the Polaris RaZoR handled it with ease. Although there were more than a couple hair raising moments where we needed the 'brown' pants.

However; The new designed Target Stand Brackets have been a HUGE success, and super easy to assemble.
We even hiked 2 targets up the mountain with ease, as they are super light to boot.

If you haven't booked your slot.. it's not too late.
Head over to www.tacdriver.co.za, register and book your entry.
