Doctor's advice

Post by Vlakvark »

A woman goes into the doctors office with a black eye and a fat lip. Of course, he asks what happened but she doesn't want to tell him. After the doctor explains his need to know how she got hurt she tells him what happened.

Woman says, "Well doctor, sometimes my husband goes out drinking with his friends and when he comes home he hits me. I just don't know what to do about it. There's just no reason for him to hit me but he does it anyway"

Doctor replies, "I can stop that from happening to you again if you'd like."

"Oh really, how could you do that?"

"Well, here's what you do" he says, "The next time he goes out drinking and you're still up when he gets home, have a glass of water handy and when he walks in the door take a big mouthful and swirl it around in your mouth until he walks away and goes to bed. He won't lay a hand on you."

"But that's silly" she says, "It'll never work."

"Trust me on this" says the Doc "just give it a try."

Several nights later, the woman is waiting up for her husband to get home and she knows he's been out drinking with his buddies. She's scared but remembers the doctor's advice and gets a glass of water and keeps it close by. Eventually, she hears her husband come home obviously a bit drunk so she takes a big mouthful of water and starts to swirl it in her mouth.

When he comes in the door he looks at her and starts to make a comment but then just stops, looks again and turns away and walks to the kitchen. Seemingly puzzled, he looks back at her a couple times but she keeps swirling the water in her mouth and again he just mumbles and turns away. He builds a sandwich and looks exptectantly her way again but she swirls the water some more so he just grunts, shrugs and goes off to bed with the sandwich without ever laying a hand on her.

The woman is amazed. "Oh my goodness, it really worked!"

Next day she goes back to see the doctor and thanks him profusely for the wise advise. She asks, "Why does it work doctor? Is there something about the swirling motion or is it the water itself? I've just got to know!"

"Honestly", replied the doctor, "The water has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's the keeping your mouth shut part that makes it work."
