If you 100 percent sure that your bullet is not in the rifling as your burn rate is well above default then your node is
43.0 grains
2602 fps average MV
+- 54400 psi
105% case fill

Brno No 2 .22LR
Tikka LSA55 .243 Win

I’m fairly sure it’s not in the rifling. But can always recheck. Currently bullet ogive is at 2.165”. Standard S&B rounds is a tad longer than the reloaded bullets.

I’ll double check tomorrow morning on rifle lands with the Hornady OAL gauge just to be sure!

Good morning,

I can confirm that the bullet is definitely not in the rifling. With the OAL gauge the lands measure at 2.300" so my bullet may be on the short side. So with the bullet I am about 4mm from the lands.

Hi Dale,

Trust you are well.

Tested the new load today @ 43gr.

FPS - 2620, 2619, 2601

Grouping looked good. Can you maybe check for me if this is in line and all pressure readings etc are in place?

Your pressure is predicted to be 55 500 psi ( SAAMI max = 60 000 psi) so you at the top end but still safe.
I do note that your MV increased disproportionally with the 43.0 grain charge versus your original 42.5 grain load.
Did you change something in your reloading process ? Case trim length ? Full size versus neck size etc ?

Hi Dale,

Trim length remained the same. There was a slight change in bullet seating depth. Changed by 0.010” on the first couple of rounds before realising I was seating it a bit deeper. Could that have caused the change?

Any time you change the seating depth you alter the useable case capacity and by seating the bullet deeper you reduce the useable case capacity marginally.
The same amount of propellant in smaller case volume generally increases the pressure and thus the MV as well.

That makes sense yes. Thanks will ensure the depth is correct and retry the load. Only measured the first few rounds for speed but will double check tomorrow on the original seating depth.

Hi Lategan.
I am all well thank you.
My change of career in the past few years doesn't allow me the free time I used to have to spend on the forum.
I trust all is well with you ?

Hi Dale,

Trust all is well.

Went to the range again today with the 308. Cases are all the same and seating depth (back to original depth), ogive length and OAL were the same as initial loads.

FPS - 2617, 2604, 2620.

Grouping looked very good.
