TSG - Peregrine VLR 4&5 bullets

Today I had the opportunity to test Peregrine's claim that their hunting bullet VLR4 and equivalent weight Target bullet VLR5, shoot to the same point of impact when loaded identically.

In the photo, VLR5 154gr left & VLR4 150gr right.

Both seated 2mm off the lands with same powder charge. My rifle tends to like the 2mm jump. Rifle is a Howa Std barrel .308Win, 1:10 and Hogue stock.

That is a 6 shot group, 3 of each option, at 100m.

My relationship with Peregrine is that they are one of the brands we sell. I also currently hunt with their bullets.

Wel done, if that was my rifle I would not use anything else , I am not convinced by the merits of monos for hunting were shots at 300m are the norm ,they do however make sense when using a fast caliber at close range where a conventional bullet would be destroyed when hitting bone oor thick skin and tough muscle tissue .
Wat has your experience been hunting with these bullets and wound channel size on long distance shots ,exit wound size and blood trail .

DD my hunting experiences so far have only been with the VRG3/ bushmaster bullet. Calibre size entry wound and double to 2/3rds size exit wound. Meat damage has been no more than I have experienced with other bullets.

I have only recovered 1 bullet so far and that was from a full frontal shot on an Impala. The bullet was recovered under the skin in the right rump. Blood trail has been good although none of my animals have run further than 30m after being shot.

End of next week I am helping guide a group of 13 hunters. Some of my party might require the use of my rifle so hopefully I'll have some feedback on the VLR4.

Wat was the test media that these bullets were fired into and wat was the impact velocity? If that type of expansion can be relied upon even at low velocity (1800fps) the VLR would make a good hunting bullet.

Kurt what is your muzzle velocity on the VLR-4's? I have used the VRG-4's with great success so far and will go hunting with the VLR-4's in a few weeks time.

Henna, on my current load of 42.9gr S335, 2775fps.

I presume you are shooting 150gr if I look at your muzzle velocity. I am shooting the 167gr VLR-4's, albeit a bit slow but it is intended for bushveld conditions only and not for long (200m+) shots.
