Leica ERi 3-12 x 50 or something else?
Hi all. I am looking for a scope for my new 300 WSM, a rifle that will purely be used for hunting. I want a ballistic reticle (I don't know anything about turrets so staying clear of them) and like the idea of an illuminated reticle. I can get the above scope for with an illuminated ballistic reticle that I really like, and which is suited to my caliber. I am hoping to stay under R20k - is there something else at this price point that I should be considering? Is a Nightforce SHV 4–14x56 better and worth R5k more? Thanks for any input.

The NF wont have the same glass as the Leica but the NF is still a very good scope. Personally I wont buy a NF SHV for the new prices there are better scopes out there for that kind off money. You are basically paying R5000-R6000 now for the name in SA if you ask me
For that kind off money I would much rather buy the Leica as a hunting scope
There is also something like this with the "ballistic turret" and im sure you will find one with a "ballistic" ret

Also a couple Zeiss models to look at with different retices but for the better glass in Zeiss scopes you tend to pay a bit more

For me it would be something like that Zeiss Conquest Dl 3-12X50 or the Leica
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

QuQ,
The Leica is a very nice scope.
Just be sure to mount it with good scope rings and base. My first choice would be for a picatinny rail and good rings.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback.
Yes Capt, I am buying from S&O and have studied every scope south of R25k, the only two that tick my boxes in the top class brands are the two mentioned in my original post .... just checking that I have not missed something. The guy at S&O also reckons that I should go with the Leica and not the more expensive NF.
Given the feedback (thanks Thomast for your input also), I will go with the Leica.
Thanks again.

Thanks Wolf, I bought the Leica. I bought an interesting rifle, a Nosler Model 48 Heritage which is basically a semi custom rifle as Nosler buy their stainless match grade barrels from Pacnor, triggers from Rifle Basix (they moved away from Timney) etc and assemble all the various components at their factory. The other interesting thing is that all the metalwork is finished in black cerakote which they claim is better than blueing.
Any ideas as to what scope rings and basis are available in black (anything that fits a Remington 700 will work on the Nosler 48).
