Jackals and wind

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do jackals become more reluctant to move if the wind is too strong, and if yes, what is too strong?

I dont know how strong the winds get down in your area.

Up here in the High Veld I have called them in during strong mountain winds.

But you need to be able to make an accurate shot in such strong wind conditions rather than going out and call and then educate the jackal.

So you make the call what is to strong...

Thanks Gerhard, it gets pretty windy here, but I have been out when the wind has got stronger and have had very little success, so I was just wondering whether it effects them or not. On the other hand, I have had lambs eaten on windy nights. So maybe I just stink and they can smell me from further away, before I see them.

Correct...

They will not stop hunting in strong wind...

Same with cold winter nights where I have called them in -11ºC

Jackall are not put off by wind,nor by cold. Problem with hunting in windy conditions is that on the longer shots things become risky. In windy conditions it is also difficult to hear if a jackall answers you from the downwind position. You sit and call,and meantime downwind old Vlekkie is enjoying his time in the classroom,learning all the way. Callshy jackall are born and bred on windy nights. It is my humble opinion,that on a windy night you rather go to bed early. If however you suffer heavy losses,just go and sit out where the losses occur and wait patiently without calling.I have had a lot of success this way.

Thanks to all that gave opinions. Martin it is sometimes difficult to do, as the sheep, due to the windy conditions, will sleep in bushy area, but I hear what you are saying, thanks. It comes down to the word " PATIENCE " again.
